[He shifts a little on his perch, and recounts, dryly,]
<My dad was an alien from a species with morphing technology. When he met my mother, I guess he meant to stay with her, but eventually a meddling time-traveling alien dude told him, "nope, you've gotta go back to your people to keep evil at bay," so my dad left me and my mom.>
<I don't know what happened to my mom,> [though he finds out later in canon that she was blinded in an "accident",] <but ever since I can remember I was shunted between an aunt and an uncle who never much liked me, until I was thirteen. When me and some people I know accidentally came across a battle between some good guys and some bad guys. The good guy was my dad, but I didn't know it at the time, because, duh, who looks at a blue alien with eyestalks and a tail and goes, "hey, that's totally my dad!">
<He gave us the morphing technology, to fight against the other guys, and then he died.>
<We watched him get eaten.>
<So, yeah, morphing. You can turn into any animal you want, but you can only do it for a couple hours at a time, or else you get stuck.>
<And I got stuck.>
[He mantles his wings a little, readjusting, and says, blandly,] <But it's not so bad. At least I get to fly.>
[He's got such a hatred for his own parents that it's hard to really feel much sympathy on that front. Mostly he's weirded out by the whole alien thing, to be honest.]
So what made you stay like that long enough to get stuck?
